Noisy Brew at the office?
Does Coffee machines and open Office spaces mix?
It depends on the overall noiselevel and peak noise value of the machine, as Well as the distance to the nearest workstations.
One Can argue that the slow drip and humm of a drip coffee machine Can be calming, while another may argue that the noise drives them mad.
Other factors like a built in grinder Can often be the leading cause of distracting and Ear piercing noise, especially for the workstations closest to the machine.
An industrylevel coffee machine for an Office of 15 people may have to grind and brew for 60 cups a day (and in some cases up to 100 cups if you ask acousticians!)
With 60 cups that is on average a brew Per 8th minute, and if that takes just a single worker out of their “zone” they Will never truly be in the “zone” and fully concentrated throughout an 8hour workday! Something for the employers to Think about.
It is probably best to move the machine away from the workstations, even in its own room or enclosure with sufficient absorption material.
